Meaning print: The Magic deer represents both the power of corn to sustain the body and the power of peyote to nourish and illuminate the spirit. (Green circles in the body are ears and eyes is a peyote). Animals such as the eagle, snake and deer are very important for Mexican indigenous cultures. However one of these animals has a special meaning for each group and thus transmits some of its qualities to the tribe. The deer takes this more intimate role for the Huichol.

The character of the Huichol people is light, flexible and humorous. They have avoided open warfare, and fought against the Spaniards nor the Mexican government, but have always kept their traditions: The Huichol hunt and sacrifice deer in their ceremonies: make offerings to the deer corn to care for their crops and the deer peyote to give them artistic inspiration and spiritual direction.
